Home-Start Horizons – Weston Charity Awards Winner, June 2019

Home-Start Horizons is thrilled to announce that we are a recipient of the prestigious Weston Charity Award, 2019-20. The Weston Charity Awards celebrate and support great frontline charities working in the fields of community, welfare and youth. Run by the Garfield Weston Foundation with Pilotlight, charities with incomes under £5 million in the North of England, the Midlands and in Wales can apply. Initially launched in the North East of England in 2014, the Weston Charity Awards quickly expanded to the North West, the Midlands and, in 2018, Wales – areas identified by the Foundation as having the greatest need.

Stuart Sullivan, CEO of Home-Start Horizons said:

“We are thrilled that our ambition to continue developing our work supporting vulnerable children and families in Leicester and Leicestershire, has been recognised in our selection as a Weston Charity Award winner.
We will seize this amazing opportunity to help us become more sustainable by diversifying funding and seeking to replace the funding cuts that came with austerity, so we can keep making a difference delivering Early Help, Preventative Support, to thousands of families and children in Leicester and Leicestershire in need, for many years to come.”

Philippa Charles, director of the Garfield Weston Foundation said:

“Home-Start Horizons has been selected due to the strength of their ambitions and their demonstrable openness to constructive challenge and external perspectives. Their impact extends far beyond their direct service users.”
Over the next 18 months Home-Start will be working closely with Pilotlight and Garfield Weston to implement change to become more sustainable to seek to develop the organization and continue our work to meet the increasing needs of vulnerable children and families across Leicester and Leicestershire.

Jon Ashworth MP, Patron of Home-Start Horizons said:

“Huge congratulations to Home-Start Horizons on receiving this well-deserved award. I am very impressed that Home-Start Horizons has been selected for this award from nearly 200 charities. I have no doubt that the grant and the support received from the Garfield Weston Foundation will enable the staff and volunteers at Home-Start Horizons to continue providing such an excellent and much-needed service to families in Leicester and Leicestershire.”
